P/K WINS TWO 2014 RAVE AWARDS
Peterssen/Keller made a splash at the 2014 RAVE Awards (Residential Architects Vision & Excellence Award). Our Cedar Lake Residence won the top award for significant renovations, and our Calhoun Kitchen received 2nd place for kitchen design. The awards recognize exceptional design across a range of styles by Minnesota architecture firms.
Star Tribune: Golden Valley Ranch
P/K's stunning renovation of Don D. Davies's home is featured on the front page of the StarTribune Home + Garden Section. Our Golden Valley Ranch project seamlessly tweaked elements to maintain the original mid-century design while increasing livability for a contemporary lifestyle. The home has previously won an AIA Minnesota Home of the Month Award.
Star Tribune: Kenwood Cottage
The Kenwood Cottage project, a collaboration with Streeter and Associates and Martha Dayton Design, is featured in the StarTribune Home + Garden Section. The article highlights the process through which the home was designed to blend in with the historic charm of the neighborhood while maintaining a modern design. Each aspect was tailor-made for the clients, down to the very last detail. This home also won a 2014 B.L.E.N.D. Award!
MPLS-St.Paul Home: Design 100
Peterssen/Keller was featured in the Design 100 issue of MPLS St. Paul Magazine. Our use of enhanced reclaimed wood was featured as an innovative way to use a seemingly overused material. Combined with Trove wallpaper and Bocci glass pendants, "these create an experience that transcends simple materials."
B.L.E.N.D. Award: Kenwood Cottage
We are pleased to announce that our recently completed Kenwood Cottage, built by Streeter and Associates, received a 2014 B.L.E.N.D Award! The awards recognize quality residential design that fits the context of the surrounding urban fabric. With an open front porch, signature blue door, and archetypal forms that blend with the surrounding homes, the house is a welcome addition to the historic neighborhood, fitting seamlessly into its surroundings while also maintaining its subtle modern identity.

ARCHITECTURE MINNESOTA: Braemar Hills Residence
The Braemar Hills Residence, P/K's stunning transformation of a mid-century ramble, graces the cover of the September issue of Architecture Minnesota. The design infuses the living spaces with new spirit and a modern design sensibility. The spaces are arranged to capture the natural light throughout the day and center around a dramatic, cantilevered open fireplace finished with Venetian plaster and a floating hearth made from gun-blued steel.
STAR TRIBUNE: Braemer Hills Residence
The Braemar Hills Residence was featured on the cover of the StarTribune Home + Garden section on September 14th. This sensational project has also been published in Architecture Minnesota and is a signature piece of P/K's recent work and collaboration with Streeter & Associates and Andrew Flesher Interiors.

Our award-winning Kenwood Cottage, a collaboration with Elevation Homes and Martha Dayton Design, graces the cover of MPLS.ST.PAUL Home & Design magazine. This new home brings together classic architectural style with modern livability. Designed as an "urban cottage," the home draws on the rich heritage of the neighborhood without feeling repetitive, and has a carefully proportioned massing that allow it to blend in beautifully. "The not-so-big house lives on, as it should."
Trends International: Fremont Georgian
Our spectacular top-to-bottom renovation of a gracious old Georgian home is featured on the cover of Trends International in India! This award-winning home combines classic elegance with a twist of the unexpected, and has been extensively published in numerous media. Its refined and functional interiors, designed to withstand the trials of a family of boys, could be easily at home in Chicago or on the coast.
Residential Architect: Tyrol Hills Residence
Our award-winning complete transformation of a 1980s house into a stunning modern family home is featured in Residential Architect. We removed all the interior walls, exposing the tall vaulted spaces hidden within the roof trusses. Rooms are defined by walls of red birch cabinetry, and the volume is accented with enameled shelves and skylights. We are pleased that this project has been recognized again!

The Fremont Georgian Residence has once again gained attention for its thoughtful material selection and meticulous details. The home's intimate sunroom has been featured in House & Home magazine. The feature showcases the room's stunning Moroccan terracotta tile, period windows, beadboard walls, and memorable blue ceiling. The story explains that the composition "keeps the relaxed vibe going, top to bottom".

Kitchen Trends: Lowry Hill Penthouse
Our recently completed Lowry Hill Penthouse is featured in the current Kitchen Trends magazine. The bold, contemporary design is apparent in the materials: dark floors of Canadian marble and European style cabinets of Japanese figured ash and high-gloss automotive paint. The project has a flair rare in residential projects, befitting the homeowner's extensive collection of art and furniture.

ASID Design Awards: Fremont Georgian & Eminent Residence
P/K's collaborations with interior designers recently won three ASID Design Awards! The Fremont Georgian renovation, designed with Engler Studio, received two first place awards. The Eminent Residence, designed with Brandi Hagen of Eminent Interior Design (her own home, no less!) also received an honorable mention. We are thrilled that our continued collaborations with these talented interior designers have received such recognition.

Midwest Home: Gull Lake Cottage
Gull Lake Cottage is featured in Midwest Home! The cabin, designed by Kristine Anderson while she was with Domain Architecture & Design, blends a subdued Scandinavian vernacular with a fresh palette of white-washed wood walls and accents of blue. As the homeowner says, "it's a little more New England than Up North."
Trends Design Award: Edgewater Penthouse I
We're happy to announce that the Edgewater Penthouse Ikitchen has been named a Trends Top 50 American Kitchen! The kitchen, published recently in Trends, was selected for its "excellence in design, function, product specification, and style." The home has also won a Sub Zero/Wolf Design Award, been featured in MplsStPaul Magazine and the StarTribune.

MPLS.St.Paul Home: Fremont Georgian
Our Fremont Georgian is featured in Mpls.St.Paul Home! The extensive renovation transformed a dark, gloomy house into a crisp and comfortable light-filled oasis. An addition created a spacious kitchen and family room that take advantage of the light and views of the newly landscaped yard. Our collaboration with Engler Studio and Streeter & Associates (dubbed "The Dream Team" in the article) is a perfect example of how our clients' unique visions inspire our designs.

COTY Awards: Tyrol Hills Residence
Our recent collaboration with Bob Near of Streeter & Associates, theTyrol Hill Residence, received two COTY Awards from NARI Minnesota, including best whole house renovation! The awards recognize excellence in aesthetics, functionality, superior craftsmanship, use of innovative construction materials and techniques, overcoming difficult obstacles, and meeting client needs. We are proud that this transformation of a 1980's home, which integrated unique materials within an organic modern design, has been recognized!

New Ideas Trends: East Isles Retreat
East Isles Retreat is a highlight of New Idea Trends. This wonderful collaboration with Coen+Partners Landscape Architects and ReuterWalton Construction was completed while Lars Peterssen and Gabriel Keller were at Domain Architecture & Design. An unuseable and unwelcoming backyard has become the center of summer activity, directly connecting indoor spaces of the home to the new terraces and pool. A row of birch trees and an elegant white fence frame the view of the new pergola and stone wood-burning fireplace.
MidWest Home: Meadow Lane Residence
The renovation of an original 1963 Elizabeth Close house was featured in Midwest Home. The design updated the home to allow for the needs of a modern family while respecting the original architecture. A new spiral stair now leads from the living room to the terrace below without obstructing the facade. Inside, the kitchen's ceiling was vaulted and a wall removed to open the space to the dining room, reflecting the important role the kitchen now plays in family life. The project, completed while Lars Peterssen was a principal at Domain Architecture & Design, is another successful collaboration with interior designer Sally Wheaton Huscha.

The condo, designed by Lars Peterssen and Gabriel Keller while they were at Domain Architecture & Design, is another example of the organic modern design approach that we can bring to our projects when our clients want a warm, contemporary interior.
Surly Brewing: Destination Brewery & Restaraunt
P/K developed the conceptual design for Surly Brewing’s newly announced “destination brewery”! A one of a kind experience in Minnesota, the 60,000sf brewery boasts many sustainable features and include a restaurant, beer garden, green roof deck, and even a windmill.
Landscape Architecture Magazine: East Isles Retreat
The East Isles Retreat was featured in Landscape Architecture magazine. The article highlights Coen + Partners award-winning landscape design, which plays modern geometries and subtle textures off the historic details of the Lake of the Isles home. A new raised terrace maximizes views of the lake and creates a direct connection into the home. The pattern of bluestone pavers clearly delineates areas of activity: panels of lawn, the pool, and a pergola and fireplace for outdoor living space.
We are excited to announce that the Lake of the Isles Residence and Vujovich Design Build received a COTY Award from NARI Minnesota! The home for Dan Buettner, which was designed by Lars Peterssen and Kristine Anderson while at Domain Architecture & Design, is a study in what is possible when talented designers, an inspired client and a meticulous contractor collaborate. Thanks again to Vujovich and all of the ASID interior designers that made it possible!
Renovation Style Magazine: Mount Curve Residence
The Mount Curve Residence, designed by Lars Peterssen and Garbiel Keller while they were with Domain Architecture & Design, was featured in Renovation Style magazine. “By abandoning convention and embracing change, one family elevates its humdrum kitchen from functional space to a high-art cooking and gathering hub." The renovation also included a sunlit family room addition that opened the home (and the kitchen) to the yard. This exceptional project is another collaboration with interior designer Andrew Flesher.
Midwest Home: Edgewater Transitional
Another fabulous Edgewater Loft was features in Midwest Home. As interior designer Sally Wheaton Hushcha said, the client “let us all flex our aesthetic muscles and do the things we were trained to do.” The result is a fantastic, one of kind pied-a-terre that exceeds the homeowner’s expectations. Artful Living: Healthy by Design
Can your home bring you happiness? Dan Buettner discusses how his Blue Zones philosophies for living were applied to the design of his home's renovations in Artful Living. Responding to research showing that the happiest people live near water, his home and new master suite were opened to Lake of the Isles. With sweeping views and cool breezes, the new 2nd floor porch provides moments of rest and connection with nature that are essential to a healthy lifestyle. National SIPA Building Excellence Award: Kenilworth Bungalow
The LEED Platinum certified Kenilworth Bungalow was awarded a SIPA Building Excellence Award! SIPs panels, or Structural Insulated Panels, are high performance prefab building panels that were used as the walls and roof structure for the home. Constructed of rigid foam sandwiched between two layers of OSB, they are extremely energy efficient and cost effective. Associate Principal Kristine Anderson has also designed a number of SIPs projects, including her own north woods cabin.
